Background
Tech Leading a New Lifestyle was developed as a projection mapping concept for Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan. The work was designed for the exterior wall of EXPO Hall “Shining Hat”, where projection mapping works were screened every night during the Expo period, including invited films and selected works from countries and regions around the world expressing hopes and visions for the future.
The concept explores how technology can shape a more convenient, flexible, inclusive, and sustainable way of living. From smart home assistants and personalised education to flexible work modes, seamless cross-cultural communication, and environmental cooperation, the work imagines a future where technology supports daily life while connecting people and protecting the planet.
Design Problem
The main challenge of this project was to transform a broad future-lifestyle concept into a clear and engaging visual narrative for a large-scale public projection.
The design needed to address several key issues:
The concept covered multiple themes, including smart living, education, work, communication, culture, and sustainability
The message had to be understandable within a short viewing time
Visuals needed to remain clear when projected onto a large architectural surface
The work had to communicate technology in a positive and human-centred way
The narrative needed to feel global, inclusive, and relevant to audiences from different cultural backgrounds
The core challenge was to present technology not as something distant or mechanical, but as an everyday force that improves how people live, learn, work, communicate, and care for the environment.
Design Positioning
The project was positioned around the idea of technology as a bridge to a better lifestyle. Rather than focusing only on futuristic machines or digital systems, the work presents technology through human scenarios and daily interactions.
The visual narrative can be structured into four key stages. The first stage introduces smart homes, showing how intelligent assistants make daily routines easier and more convenient. The second stage focuses on personalised education and flexible work, reflecting a future where learning and working can adapt to individual needs. The third stage highlights seamless communication between people from different cultural backgrounds, suggesting a more connected and diverse society. The final stage moves toward sustainable environmental development, showing people working together to safeguard the planet.
Visually, the work can combine digital interfaces, flowing data lines, human silhouettes, cultural symbols, natural elements, and green energy-inspired motion. This creates a balance between technological progress and human warmth, allowing the projection to feel optimistic, accessible, and future-facing.
Conclusion
Tech Leading a New Lifestyle presents technology as a positive force that reshapes everyday life. Through smart living, personalised learning, flexible work, cultural communication, and sustainable development, the work imagines a future where innovation serves people and connects communities.
As a projection mapping concept for an international Expo setting, the project uses motion, light, and symbolic storytelling to express a hopeful vision of future society — one where technology does not replace human values, but strengthens convenience, diversity, cooperation, and environmental responsibility.
