Background
This project involved store planning and user experience design for Double Step, a chain service brand. As a service-based retail brand, the store environment was not only a place for customer reception and service delivery, but also an important touchpoint for communicating the brand image and building customer trust.
The design considered the full customer experience from the moment users entered the store, including entrance visibility, reception, waiting areas, service zones, display areas, and exit flow. Through spatial planning, brand visuals, wayfinding, and customer journey design, the store was developed to communicate the brand clearly while improving service efficiency and user experience.
Design Problem
The main challenge was to balance brand consistency, spatial efficiency, and customer experience within a chain store environment. The design needed to address several key issues:
The store needed to clearly express the brand identity and support future branch expansion
Customers needed to quickly understand the service flow after entering the store
Reception, waiting, enquiry, service, and exit routes had to be smooth and intuitive
Different functional zones needed to be clearly defined while maintaining overall visual unity
The layout had to support both customer comfort and staff workflow
Brand identity, spatial planning, and service experience had to work as one integrated system
The core challenge was to integrate brand image, service flow, and customer movement into a clear and efficient chain store spatial system.
Design Positioning
The project was positioned around a clear, efficient, and scalable service experience. Instead of focusing only on the appearance of the store, the design placed strong emphasis on how customers moved through the space and interacted with different service touchpoints.
The layout guided customers naturally from the entrance to reception, waiting, service, and exit areas. Each zone was designed with a specific function and visual priority: the entrance strengthened brand recognition, the reception area provided clear guidance, the waiting area offered comfort and order, and the service area supported privacy, efficiency, and operational needs.
To support future branch development, the design also established a flexible spatial and visual system, including colour use, materials, signage, furniture arrangement, and functional modules. This allowed the brand to maintain a consistent identity across different store locations while adapting to different site conditions.
Conclusion
Through store planning, customer journey design, and service experience integration, this project developed a clear and expandable chain store design system for Double Step. The design improved customer flow, strengthened brand recognition, and supported more efficient service delivery.
By combining brand visuals, functional zoning, and user experience design, the store was transformed from a simple service space into a structured, trustworthy, and memorable physical brand experience.
